My crafting affinity was probably hereditary. I have childhood memories of my Nana making a hundred favors for her church senior functions, while my mom has recently converted the basement in my childhood home into a crafting retreat, and this year my sister gifted string art to the family.
Since both my sister and I would be home for Christmas this year, Mom prepared this simple project for us to work on together. She got the idea from a hostess gift that she had received earlier in the season. While many glasses of wine were drank, with tug of war over the only hot glue gun, we crafted these whimsical candle holders.
The set that I chose to make included a Santa Claus, Christmas tree, penguin, and reindeer. Their sets included alternatives like the Grinch, elf, snowman, and gingerbread man. And, this project can easily be adapted to suit other holidays. With extra glasses that she had ready Mom made a spider web and a ghost for Halloween.
What you need:
- Thrift store wine glasses
- Spray paint in multiple colors
- Hot glue gun
- Pom pom garland
- Mini pom poms
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes
- Variety of ribbon
- And whatever else would look cute!
First spray paint the outside of the glasses, you may need to apply additional coats to achieve the desired effect. When this is dry, decorate at will!
Merry Belated Christmas! I hope you try making these next year!
